Anderson Silva not happy with Chael Sonnen vs. Jon Jones – UFC News
Rarely does it happen that Anderson Silva, UFC middleweight champion, comments on other fights, especially with disgusts. However, this time, the Brazilian fighter has made a point to stand up for those who deserved a title shot against light heavyweight
champion Jon Jones.
Last week, the UFC announced a fight between Jones and Chael Sonnen, to be held at The Ultimate Fighter Season 17. The decision received a lot of criticism from every nook of the world, including fighters, analysts and fans. Most of them questioned Sonnen’s
merits and if he is eligible for a title shot or not, since he has not yet made his comeback to the light heavyweight division.
Silva finds himself at the same spot too, where he is trying to figure out as to why did the UFC made this call.
“I think there's other athletes who deserved (the spot). Chael does his job very well. If selling very well is a good buck. Chael Sonnen gets things that sometimes we cannot. It sells well, a guy who knows how to make provocations,” said Silva to Globo SporTV.
According to Silva, there are other fighters in the division such as Lyoto Machida, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Glover Teixeira and Rafael Cavalcante, who deserve the fight more than Sonnen. In fact, Silva believes that all these fighters are not just eligible
to face Jones, they have the skills to beat him.
Probably, Silva’s questions have appeared a little late, as President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White has already clarified his decision, saying no one else wanted to face Jones, even though nobody is ready to accept White’s part of the
story.
“Every one of these guys that are bitching about the title shot right now were offered the fight and turned it down. They refused to fight Jon Jones. Now, they’re bummed out because Chael stepped up on eight days’ notice and he’s going to coach ‘The Ultimate
Fighter’ and going to fight him,” said White regarding the complaints being made by fellow fighters such Machida and Dan Henderson over the entire scenario of Sonnen vs. Jones.
