Anderson Silva reveals he wanted to save UFC 151 – UFC News
In the aftermath of UFC 151’s cancellation, many fighters, including Vitor Belfort and Anderson Silva, have revealed they offered help to save the show. As of now, it is Anderson Silva who has come up saying he was ready to put up a fight against anyone
in his division to save the show.
“You did your entire preparation focused on one guy. When they replace a guy it changes a bit. I thought he could fight Chael, but it's his call to make. He trained focused on Dan Henderson. His team thought it was better for him not to fight,” said Silva.
“When I heard it, I called Dana (White) and said I'd fight on the light heavyweight division although I wasn't trained. Besides the big fight there are other fighters relying on that. I worried about the because I've been through that in smaller events,”
Silva added.
For now, Anderson Silva believes Jones did the right thing. According to Silva, there was no pressure on Jones and it was completely his call. However, he insists, the card that got cancelled certainly affected a lot of other fighters, especially the undercard
fighters.
Jon Jones turned down the fight against Sonnen saying he would not decide on an opponent just eight days prior to the show. Jones has already apologised to the fans and his fellow fighters but has maintained that he needs to do what his best for him and
his career.
Jones will be heading towards UFC 152, where he will be defending his title against Vitor Belfort.
Dan Henderson was originally scheduled to face Dan Henderson at UFC 151, but due to a grave injury he suffered, he could not attend the show. Therefore, Dana White was compelled to make a replacement for Henderson and for him the closest option was Chael
Sonnen who will be making his comeback to the light heavyweight division.
However, Jones did not find it appealing to face a tough challenger like Sonnen with just eight days of notice. According to Jones, he is a fighter and he will fight anyone any day but he needs to know who is opponent is so that he can prepare beforehand.
