Anderson Silva shrugs off rumours of fighting at 205 lbs again – UFC News
UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has shrugged off possibilities of fighting at the light-heavyweight level again. Silva, who defeated light heavyweight contender Bonnar past Saturday at UFC 153, is no more in the mood of doing it again.
Most fans and analysts were hoping Silva to agree for a fight against light heavyweight champion Jon Jones but the middleweight champion declined the notion. Even though there is tremendous pressure on Silva to do the fight, the ‘Spider’ is quite sure-footed
for not going against Jones.
“No, I am not going to fight at 205 again. I fought to save the event. I was doing it just to save the event, to put on a show for everybody,” said Silva, who defeated ‘The American Psycho’ via first round knockout.
Silva’s performance was widely appreciated even by his critics. The Brazilian mixed martial artists stands as an unbeaten fighter with 16 wins in his portfolio. He is considered as the best fighter in the world of MMA by far and wide. Even President of the
Ultimate Fighting Championship regarded Silva as the best fighter in the world. However, the Brazilian champion was humble enough to say he is not.
“I'm not the best. I just believe I can do things people think are impossible,” said Silva during the post fight press conference of UFC 153.
For now, Silva is not looking forward to fighting soon. However, Dana White has promised fans that he would bring a super-fight to the world of UFC. White claimed that even though Silva is saying ‘no’ for the fight against Jones right now, once big money
will be involved, the middleweight champion will approve the showdown.
Unfortunately, Silva commented that he has never fought for money and he has always been in the business because he loves it. For now, the Brazilian champion feels proud of holding an unbeaten streak. He believes he is old now and there are several young
fighters coming up who are hungry and they want to grab the titles.
Silva wants to hang up his gloves soon as he believes his time is near.
