Anderson Silva sticking to his grounds, wants to fight GSP – UFC News
For many, Anderson Silva is definitely the best pound for pound mixed martial artist in the world, but not for Silva himself. It seems like the middleweight champion is not yet satisfied with his career, not until he beats welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre.
Silva, who stands with an unbeaten streak in the UFC, believes GSP is the only fighter left in the industry whom he needs to fight in order to cement his legacy for good.
“At the end of the day, GSP is the greatest welterweight of all time,” said Ed Soares, Silva’s manager while talking his way to a potential super-fight between Silva and GSP. “People argue back and forth who the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world
is. Some people say it's Anderson, some people say it's Georges St-Pierre. So I think the way to settle it is to do a catch weight at 177 1/2, right down the middle, and see what happens.”
Ed believes fans would love to see a fight between GSP and Silva, considering the fact that both fighters are the best in the business. “I think it'll be a fight that the fans want to see and it'll be a great fight.”
Silva currently stands with 16 wins in the UFC. He recently knocked out The American Psycho in the first round at UFC 153. On the other hand, GPS has 16 wins and 2 losses in his career. He is making his comeback after almost 19 months against interim champion
Carlos Condit, who stands with 5 wins and 1 loss in UFC.
It should be noted here that Silva has been eyeing a shot at GSP for quite sometime. Not just him, in fact President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White is also in the mood to make the super-fight happen.
During the UFC 153 post-fight conference, White came up saying that a potential bout against GSP or light heavyweight titlist Jon Jones awaits Silva. White wants to make it happen and so does Silva, and so it would surely happen next year, as the ‘Spider’
has already announced he would not fight until 2013.
