Anderson Silva vs. Georges St-Pierre will not be a title fight – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White has asserted that the super-fight between Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva will probably not be a title fight. White, who is planning to put both UFC’s top fighter in the cage together, wants
the fight to be for the pound for pound legacy and not for the titles.
Georges St-Pierre, who recently made his comeback against interim titlist Carlos Condit, stands as the welterweight titlist. On the other hand, Anderson Silva is the middleweight champion, considered by many the best mixed martial artist specialist to ever
step in the ring. Silva also rides an unbeaten streak in the UFC.
“Probably not,” said White during the post fight press conference of UFC 154. “I don't know how many times Anderson would actually defend it.”
White has previously asserted that the fight will be for the fans. According to him, putting both the top fighters of the organisation is not an easy job, yet he will do it to make sure fans get the best of UFC.
“This is more of a pound-for-pound legacy-type fight,” White added.
Many analysts are already hoping that the fight between the two will be UFC’s biggest ever event. GSP is now back in business and he is the only fighter who can give Anderson Silva a tough fight in the cage. On the other hand, Anderson Silva has iterated
that he is getting old and it is now time for him to cement his legacy as the best fighter out there. Probably, this is the reason why the Brazilian fighter is looking forward to face GSP next year, to ensure he has defeated all the best fighters of his time
before he retires.
There are also talks of a possible bout between light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Anderson Silva. However, Silva has already denied the fact that he will go up to face Jones. Similarly, even Jones has shrugged down the rumours, saying he will not
fight Anderson Silva at catch weight.
Even though fans are hoping Silva and Jones to clash, there are rare chances of the fight happening.
