Anderson Silva wants Georges St-Pierre next – UFC News
UFC champion Anderson Silva wants a super-fight against current welterweight titlist Georges St. Pierre. The idea of a super-bout between the two has been popping up every now and then, but now Silva is ready to go the extra mile to take on the French-American
titlist.
“Georges St-Pierre told me he wants (to fight Silva),” said Firas Zahabi, trainer of Georges St. Pierre.
“Right now, he has to get back on the horse and fight Carlos Condit and be champion again. He needs to keep focused. … [If the Silva fight happens] ideally I'd like a catch weight. I think it'd be more fair. If you fight at a catch weight, Silva won't be
20 pounds heavier. 177 or 178 pounds is much more fair,” he added.
According to Zahabi, St-Pierre was initially not willing to take up the match but now he is.
It should be noted here that GSP is coming off a long break from the sport. Since St. Pierre has a history of recurring injuries, it might not be suitable for him to take on a fighter like Silva in a super-bout.
St. Pierre is currently scheduled to face Carlos Condit at UFC 154. Since it will be GSP’s comeback bout, it is yet to be seen if the American-French fighter is up to the mark, after around eight years of being away from the sport.
However, Silva is not in the mood to let go Georges this time. The middleweight champion stated that even if GSP loses against Condit, he would fight him next year.
“Regardless of who wins and even if St-Pierre loses, a fight with me can happen. A duel is above any such thing. St-Pierre is one of the UFC's greats; his fight against Condit is meaningless,” said Silva in an interview to SportTV.com.
Silva is currently on vacations and he will not be fighting until next year. The champion is on the verge of retirement and therefore he wants to give fans the much awaited fight against St. Pierre. According to Silva’s camp, there are not many fighters
in the organisation who can take on ‘The Spider’.
