Anderson Silva’s trainer reveals strategy to beat Jon Jones – UFC News
It is widely believed that light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is a younger version of middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Although Jones does not lead an unbeaten streak, many believe his future is as bright as Silva’s. With this in mind, the only person
that analysts believe can beat Jones is Silva, or it could be the other way round.
During an interview with Sherdog.com, Anderson Silva’s trainer Josuel Distak spoke about how to defeat Jon Jones.
“Actually, we have not seen Jon Jones on his back. Vitor (Belfort) got his arm; he had the opportunity. Actually Jones is unpredictable. To me the strategy to do a fight with him would involve finding out how he fights on his back,” he said.
Even though there is not much to his strategy, one thing is for sure, Jones definitely needs to prove his skills on his back. He has always been a very straightforward fighter, not allowing his opponents to reach him with his long arms and legs. Jones long
reach is his weapon yet some fighters have managed to broke the shield and get to him, such as Vitor Belfort at UFC 152.
Belfort locked up Jones in an armbar and the champion was unable to counter it. Somehow, Jones managed to get rid of the lock but by then enough damage was done to his right arm. Keeping this in mind, one could easily say that once an opponent gets to Jones,
he has the chances of making the champion fall.
For now, Jones is scheduled to face The American Gangster Chael Sonnen at The Ultimate Fighter Season 17. Since Sonnen is a grappler too, chances of Jones’ survival are tough, especially if Sonnen has learned anything from Belfort’s efforts.
Fans are already demanding a fight between Jones and Anderson Silva, since both fighters are considered equal when it comes to fighting skills. However, Silva is hesitant to face Jones, asserting that he is old and there are other contenders who need to
get a chance at Jones’ title. The super-fight might not happen and fans might not get the chance to see both the titans fight.
