Andhra 240/5 (87.0 ov) - Goa won the toss and elected to field
On the first day of the Andhra v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andhra-c764 after being asked to bat first gave a commendable performance by posting 240 runs for the loss of five wickets at stumps, at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
It was imperative for both teams to gain an upper hand on the first day of the four-day match to exert pressure on their opposition.
Andhra, however, were not lucky in the beginning as they lost opener HH Watekar for nil with only a run on the board.
This early loss could have put the batting side under pressure and given the opposition enough confidence to wreak havoc, however, the second-wicket partnership between DB Prasanth and KS Sahabuddin moulded an outstanding resistance which took Goa by surprise as the batsmen ran between the wickets wisely enough to intimidate the fielders.
The batting duo took the score to 74, after which Gadekar clean-bowled Sahabuddin for 49. The batsman was obviously unlucky as he fell just one run short from hammering a well tamed half century.
Prasanth was then joined by B Sumanth as the two batsmen maintained a steady pace in their innings.
The bowlers needed to restrict the flow of runs; however, the two batsmen were just too good to be halted by an average bowling attack.
Finally after conceding 116 runs, Goa struck for the third time when Prasanth was run out for 48 runs.
The departure of the opener brought AA Muzumdar in the middle and together with B Sumanth the batsman forged a potent partnership.
Goa bowlers needed to prevent Andhra from forming these partnerships, but their bowlers and fielders were just left clueless under these circumstances.
Bandekar then trapped Sumanth in front of stumps after the batsman had smashed 21 runs off 66 deliveries. At the time of this wicket, the batting side was on 137.
Later with AA Muzumdar unbeaten on 56 and D Shivkumar on 22, Andhra ended the day with 240 on the board for five.
