Andis Juska squashes Adam Feeney in final qualifying round – Orleans Challenger 2011
Latvian International, Andis Juska, squared-off in the final qualifying round of the Orleans Challenger Tournament against the Australian International, Adam Feeney in France on Sunday October 16th. The first meeting
between the two contenders for the main draw of the tournament ended up with a straight set triumph for the Latvian International. He only took forty-three minutes to hammer his opponent with a cumulative score of 6-0, 6-3.
Both players were going through a rough time. Feeney had won just three matches of his last ten encounters whilst his opponent managed five victories of his last ten matches. However, the superior ranking of the Latvian definitely
made him the hot favourite to win the match and he exactly lived up to the expectations of everyone.
The match started in an exciting fashion and it seemed that only Juska was the only player on the court and Feeney never seemed to be there. Latvian hammered the Australian in every department and clinched the first six games to
seal the first set with nothing at all to spare for his opponent.
Three break points and four aces from the Latvian were the essence of the first set. He registered a delightful 89% first serve points winning rate and coupled it with another quality 80% second serve points winning rate. There
was nothing for the Australian in the whole set who was just a mere spectator all this time.
Feeney tried to regain some control in the second set by levelling the score to 2-2 but it was not to be the case. Latvian was much more composed and was in no mood to provide any chance whatsoever for the 26-year-old Australian.
Electrifying display of power shots and stunning six aces delighted the crowd.
26-year-old Latvian registered another massive first serve points winning rate of 80% and coupled it with 80% second serve return points winning rate. Such stats can delight anyone present in the arena except the opponent and can
dismantle his confidence.
The Australian was at the receiving end of all the hammering. He had no answers to Juska’s class and could just see the ball breeze past him from the other corner of the court. However, the match proved to be a good learning curve
for the Australian.
World No. 523 won 61 points of the total 92 played and placed a berth in the main draw of the tournament. He is now scheduled to play the Frenchman, Pierre-Hugues Herbert, in the first round of the tournament.
