Andover beats St. John’s Prep by 3-0 in Division 1 North tournament – Volleyball news
Andover boy's volleyball team has earned itself a ticket into the semi-finals of the Division 1 North tournament by defeating St. John’s Prep. The match took place on Wednesday and lasted for three sets in which St John’s was unable to put up a fight against
the dominant Warriors.
The Warriors took out their rivals in three unbeaten sets with the score board reading 25-19, 25-21 and 25-20.
The Warriors have really picked up their game this year. Their unimpressive performance left much to be desired, but this year the boys have really got their game together and are very competitive. Andover was able to enter the quarter-final round after
having defeated the fifth ranked Greater Lowell team. What is more impressive is the fact that the win was not a struggle but was achieved by the twelfth ranked Warriors in a clean sweep.
Any team facing the red hot Warriors in the semi-finals will need to call upon their best in order to beat the Andover boys on the court. This time around, the Warriors are up against the Number One ranked Haverhill. If the Warriors are able to defeat the
Number One team in these playoffs, their progress towards the champion’s title would almost be unstoppable.
If the overall season records of both semi-finalist teams are compared, than the Hillies reflect why they are labeled the top team. The Haverhill squad has won 19 games so far and has only lost one match. In contrast to this, the Warriors have had a relatively
less impressive record. Andover has only been able to win 12 games, which are accompanied by nine losses.
The Warriors might be coming onto the semi-final court with some hesitation as they have not come out as the better team in the last two matches that Andover and Haverhill have played against each other. Both of the times, the Hillies were able to secure
a clean sweep over the Warriors.
The first of these matches took place on 25th April whereas the second one took place on the 16th of May.
The semi-final is scheduled to take place on Thursday. The venue is the home court of Haverhill which will add to the pressure felt by the Warriors. It remains to be seen whether the Warriors can put an end to this winning legacy of the Hillies and turn
the tables the best team in the area.
