Andray Blatche aiming to be more consistent in future; Wants to be an All-Star – NBA News
Washington Wizards forward Andray Blatche has reiterated his desire to be a better player in the future. The forward averaged 16.8 points per game as well as 8.2 rebounds last season, but believes he still has room for improvement.
Blatche has endured a career filled with missed chances and off court controversies which could have been avoided. He was involved in the Gilbert Arenas fiasco that even resulted in him being fined by the Wizards. Some years ago,
Blatche declared that he was focusing on his NBA career and tried to cut out negative influences from his life.
The 25 year old has taken some strides in the last couple of seasons and has shown glimpses of a special talent. He conceded that work still needed to be done, but was adamant that he will make up for lost time and become an All-Star
in the very near future.
“I’m 25 years old,” said Blatche, who celebrated his birthday last month in South Beach. “I’ve been in the league six years now. I know my goal. I want to be an all-star. And to be an all-star, I have to make changes, and those
are the changes that I have to make now.”
Blatche is known to have worked out extensively in Miami during the summer. He has also been more involved with community work and many believe he is finally showing signs of a maturity that was lacking in the player a few years
ago.
Blatche believes the improvement seen so far is no accident but a manifestation of the good work he has put in on and off the court. The 6-foot-11 forward has not only changed his work ethic and attitude, he has also consciously
surrounded himself with people who will help him get better and discarded of those he considered uninterested in Andray’s well being.
“I took the time to cut back on some friends and some people, and built myself around better people that know what’s best for me,” he said. “I’m sorry that it took so long for me to realize it, but it’s all about growing and maturing
and that’s basically what I’m doing.”
Blatche has been with the Washington Wizards throughout his NBA career, after they drafted him back in 2005. He has 6 NBA seasons under his belt and now looks like realizing the potential he showed early in his career.
If he can become the All-Star player he is aiming to be, then he would be of a big help to the Wizards who are looking to build a successful future around talented point guard John Wall.
