After seven disastrous years in DC, Andray Blatche seeks a new beginning with the Brooklyn Nets.....
Andray Blatche’s seven years with the Washington Wizards have been nothing short of train wreck which involved him being shut down in the final stages of last season, after being declared unfit to play professional basketball.
However, to Blatche, everything that came his way was all that he deserved. First he decided not train for the lockout affected season as he expected the whole season to be wiped off and that led him to coming in with excessive
weight. But that was not the root of his problems as last season also saw Blatche being in open disputes with the coaches and in disciplinary cases which led the Wizards to shut him out for the last 22 games of the campaign.
Over the summer, the Wizards used their amnesty provision to part ways with the power forward, thus bringing an end to his stint with the Wizards. The amnesty really put Blatche's career in jeopardy and at one point he made a desperate
plea to play any kind of basketball, even in D-League.
Fortunately Brooklyn Nets came calling and have offered him a one year contract. There were some slight delays in his arrival with the newest NBA franchise but the official announcement was made on Wednesday.
The semantics of the deal have been drawn in such a manner that Blatche is set to play for the Nets in the coming season for a veteran’s minimum of $1.1 million. However the contract is non-guaranteed and he can be cut lose at
any stage of the season.
Under the situation, the first thing he needs to do is set his priorities right and be very sure about what matters more to him. And it has to be basketball.
The next thing he will need to do is come into training camps as ready as possible - getting rid of the excessive weight will just be one of things he will have to do in order to be prepared.
Over the course of his career, Andray has shown capabilities of being a good defender and only a few changes are required in his positioning to help him become even better. He has all the opportunities to make the best of this
second opportunity and now it is only upon him to decide whether he is serious about his profession or not.
