Andre Ayew urges Olympique Marseille to move forward after losing out to Manchester United
Olympique Marseille and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 international, Andre Ayew, has expressed his disappointment at his sides loss to current English Premier League leaders Manchester United. The match played on Tuesday put the French side out of the UEFA Champions League campaign.
Marseille lost to Manchester United, 2-1, in their second leg of the round-of-16 clash that crashed them out of the Champions League campaign, after the first leg ended at 0-0.
The 21-year-old has insisted that any loss is hard to swallow and going out of the Champions League is certainly a big loss but it doesn’t mean that Marseille will rue lost chances, instead the team should look forward and concentrate on the upcoming fixtures.
He mentioned that what is gone will not come back and his side needs to move on and focus on other fixture down the line.
The striker-winger was utterly disappointed at his team’s loss and blamed missed chances and poor decisions were behind the slump. Ayew further added that, "We came here [to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749] with a lot of desire, but an early goal in the first 10 minutes is hard
to take, even after we scored, we still had belief in ourselves. We wanted to do well, but everything went wrong for us. We had some opportunities going forward which scared them, but we could not do get the result we wanted.”
The Ghanaian international though tried to reassure his team by commenting that football is by chance and no team can be regarded as favourites. Every team has its day and unfortunately it was not Marseille’s day at Old Trafford. The striker said that, "This
is football. Now, we must forget this match and think about PSG, as it is a very important match. We want to win at all costs."
Ayew joined the French club in 2007 and made thirty-three appearances in his first year that saw him scoring six goals. The striker was loaned to another French club, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Lorient-c39153 for the 2008-09 season and then enjoyed a loan spell with AC Arles-Avginon for
2009-10 season before re-joining Marseille. The striker has also managed to make twenty-nine international appearances that saw him scoring two goals.
Olympique Marseille are the reigning Ligue 1 champions but Didier Deschamps side are currently fourth in the league table with forty-eight points and eleven games remaining. Les Phoceens are just four points behind the current leaders Lille OSC who are sitting
on top with fifty-two points.
Marseille will host Paris Saint-Germain in their next game, to be played on Sunday, at Stade Velodrome and a win would help the Les Phoceens close the gap on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lille-OSC-c39800 while, it will also take them up to the second spot above Rennes who are currently on
forty-nine points.
