Andre Begemann, Philipp Oswald move into final qualies – Eckental Challenger 2011
The qualifying matches of the 2011 Eckental Challenge took place in Eckental, Germany on October 30, 2011. The second round match featured Andre Begemann (Germany) play against compatriot Daniel Uhlig. The 27-year old Begemann
was in great form as he defeated the 1063rd ranked Uhlig in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
In the first set, Begemann was able to save five out of six break points while his opponent could save only out of three chances. Both the German players were eyeing a place in the main round of the tournament contested on their
home soil. With seven aces by Begemann and three by Uhlig, they kept their counter attack in full swing to take a lead in the match.
Begemann, ranked at number 229 spot in the world, conceded two double faults in both sets, as he wanted to retain the lead he maintained in the early parts of each of the two sets. On the other hand, Uhlig only conceded one double
fault that was in the second set.
Begemann’s first serve success rate was also at the higher end of seventy-six percent as compared to Uhlig’s seventy percent. The straight set victory by Begemann would boost his morale as he enters into the next round, while it
would be a lesson for Uhlig, who needs to improve his shot selection to improve his game.
The other qualifying match on October 30, 2011 played between Albano Olivetti (France) and Philipp Oswald (Austria) was won by the Austrian, 7-6 (4), 6-7(8), 6-4. The qualifying match had numerous nerve-wrenching moments as both
the players were in the hunt to take a lead.
19-year old Olivetti scored twenty-eight aces with seven double faults. His opponent, 25-year old Austrian scored twenty aces. The energy with which both the players were playing was evident in the number of aces they delivered,
for they were eager to win their qualifying match.
Olivetti, ranked at the 464th spot in the world, had seven double faults in the match, which could be because of his inexperienced nature as he is only nineteen. The excitement in the match was there from the first set
when it went into a tiebreaker.
Both players saved all of their break points, which meant they did not want to lose at any cost. World number 263, Oswald, took the first set 7-6 (4). In the second set, the French player made a strong comeback against the Austrian
when he won it 7-6 (8). The third set was the deciding moment of the match.
Both players wanted to win the set without taking it into a tiebreaker that is why both had a fairly higher first serve success ratio. Olivetti had an eighty-percent first serve success rate while Oswald had a flawless rate of
hundred percent.  Oswald has now entered into the next round of the competition.
