Andre Berto, Victor Ortiz finally set to clash for a rematch – Boxing news
The rematch between Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz has been decided to take place on Saturday April 16, 2011 at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Andre Berto has been outstanding since his first welterweight fight by scoring many knockouts and unanimous decisions in his professional career.
Ortiz gave the toughest test of his career fighting against Marcos Maidana at the 140 lb weight class on June 27, 2009. However, the way he fought seems to be an effortless attempt to win this bout.
Ortiz looked very depressed against Maidana that he went to the floor for a couple of times in the fight. However, the interesting thing of this bout was, he was on his feet until the end of the bout. The point is that Ortiz has shown that he is not willing
to go against Maidana in that way he lost his confidence just before the fight in an interview.
Two years ago, an undefeated Berto with his prominent knockout rate was the biggest threat to the fighters in his division. However, he faced the toughest opposition in the early days of his professional career, when he was found to be struggling against
Forbes, Urango and Collazo. They all remained active until the final round of the bout against Berto giving him tough time. Berto was hurt by Collazo several times throughout the fight.
According to Ortiz, it was his biggest test to date even more severe than Maidana to go against Berto. Because Berto has gained lot of recognition, showing to be in a great form against the big names in the sport.
There is no denying the fact that Ortiz is physically very strong that everyone can easily experience in his past fights. He has all the skills and qualities that one boxing superstar should have in current boxing world. However, Ortiz is now very passionate
to win this rematch against him.
Berto fought very well in his last fight against Freddy Hernandez, where as a result of receiving clean punch from Berto, Hernandez went down to the canvas for the count.
Berto will not try to come at Ortiz straightaway throwing punches, the way Marcos Maidana did because he is very calm regarding his fight plan. It means there would be opportunities, especially in the opening few rounds for Ortiz to take the fight away from
him.
Ortiz is the favourite contender of this fight. According to many boxing fans, critics, writers, Ortiz has all the abilities to take this bout away from Berto.
There is a probability that Ortiz can manage a unanimous decision if he can do enough damage to Berto in the early rounds.
