Andre Berto excited to get back in the ring
WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto has broken the silence and confirmed he is excited to be stepping back into the ring on 27 November. He’ll take on challenger Freddy Hernandez on the undercard for
an HBO card featuring WBA lightweight champ Juan Manuel Marquez and Michael Katsidis in the mainevent.
"I'm very excited,” Berto claimed. “I'm looking forward to going in there and putting on a good show for the fans so that they can enjoy my performance. That's what I do. I'm a performer. I'm hyped and
ready to go to work. I've never seen Hernandez fight, but I'm getting a little bit more information now that we're in camp. From what I understand, he's durable and likes to go to work."
Hernandez is currently the WBC Latino welterweight champion. He has shown steady improvement working up the rankings, and is known mostly for his last fight, in which he toppled DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley
in five rounds. Hernandez is a strong puncher who hopes to keep up pace with Berto and give him a run for his money.
Berto is looking to extend his April performance against Carlos Quintana, who he overwhelmed in eight rounds. Quintana is the only boxer to have beaten widely-regarded number three fighter in the world,
Paul Williams, which highlights Berto’s abilities.
"That's the boxing business," said Berto. "The only thing I can do is my job. I just have to go in there and put these guys to sleep."
A third fight featured on the card will feature Celestino Caballero and Jason Litzau. Caballero is well-known as a super bantamweight champion who is generally avoided by the best in his division. Because
he could get no worthy matchups at super bantamweight, a bout with Litzau will be his first at junior lightweight.
Many in the boxing world have commented on the high prices HBO seems to be willing to pay for Andre Berto’s services. For the bout with Hernandez HBO is forking out a reported $1.25 million.
