Andre Berto’s trainer picks Floyd Mayweather over Manny Pacquiao
Andre Berto’s trainer believes Floyd Mayweather Jr. would take Manny Pacquiao out in the ring.
In an article reported by boxingscene.com, Berto’s trainer Tony Morgan said: “Do I think Floyd can beat him? Yeah I think Floyd can beat him. I think it will be a difficult fight. Floyd is smart. Floyd is going to hit him when he wants to hit him, tie him
up when he wants to.”
He continued: “He has good movement and he’s not going to stand there. If you look at the people who Pacquiao looks good against it’s people who stand right there.”
Pacquiao is coming off a brilliant weekend performance over the much heavier Antonio Margarito. The two clashed at the Cowboys stadium in Arlington, Texas.
For twelve rounds Pacquiao avoided Margarito’s fists, and picked valuable shots that resulted in Margarito going to the hospital after the fight with a broken orbital bone.
While Morgan picked Mayweather at the end of the day against Pacquiao, he was willing to praise “Pacman’s” formidable arsenal against Margarito.
“Even after all he has and all he’s done he’s still hungry,” Morgan said. “He’s still fights hungry. When you fight hungry and you train hungry it’s very hard to beat those guys. Very hard. He makes mistakes but his work ethic and his hand speed and foot
speed is going to be tough for anyone to contend with.”
Berto is preparing for a bout against Freddy Hernandez on November 27. The fight will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and will be shown on HBO.
In recent years Berto has become something of an “HBO darling” to many in the boxing world. Many believe he is being paid far too much by the broadcasting company considering the quality of his opposition.
In a recent statement Ross Greenburg, HBO Sports President, reacted to the criticism and said that Berto knows he will have to face a top-tiered opponent in 2011, or he will not be participating on the network.
