Andre Drummond trying to come to grips with the NBA game
Detroit Pistons newly drafted centre Andre Drummond displayed some crazy athletic skills during the Orlando summer League, however Andre who is just 18, needs a lot of coaching before he can really blossom.
During the Orlando Summer league Pistons finished off with a 4-1 record, at par with only the Boston Celtics, whose only defeat came at the hands of Pistons. The game played on last Thursday was marked by a brilliant performance
from Drummond. The forward netted 10 points with 8 boards in 26 minutes and contributed meaningfully in Detroit’s 93-79 victory over the Greens.
Andre almost measuring 7ft proved to be a perfect combination of height and skills. His height makes him a formidable defensive option, while he is improving gradually on the offensive end.
Andre, himself is enjoying the learning procedure;
"This has been great," Drummond said in an interview with the Hoopsworld. "Just being out here with Detroit and being out here with my new family, my new brothers and my new home. I'm just learning a whole lot every single day.
I've learned things I've never heard of my entire life within three days of being with Detroit. It's just been a great learning process for me”.
The rookie is sometimes compared with Dwight Howard. With a huge structure and wingspan, he has the ability to pass the ball with his back to the basket. Though he is just 18 and aggression is still a problem, but with time and
more NBA experience he can become a prolific post player.
Drummond has all the right attributes, he is young, athletic and above all he has the willingness to learn, and this will guarantee his bright future with NBA. Over the time he will gain more experience and will become one of Pistons’
most prized possession.
However he is still a work in progress and the coaches have to work even on the basics, such as the pick and roll;
"There's new terminology. I haven't heard some of these words before," Drummond said. "I ask a lot of questions”.
