Andre Ethier and the Dodgers’ hitting faction beat down on Phillies’ Kyle Kendrick and Bullpen.
What transpired in last night’s match was not short of awe inspiring for many hitters out there in Major League Baseball. The game presented an exhibition of world class hitting as the Los Angeles Dodgers produced 15 runs off 18 hits.
Andre Ethier was one such man who presented the quality, smash and bash, attribute to the ball squad. The player reached the bases 6 times. He scored 4 times and connected with 4 hits as well. His performance would be looked on as nothing short of astonishing.
The Philadelphia Phillies did put up a decent fight but were short of any strong ball thrower to contain the deficit as Kyle Kendrick ran out of steam in 3.1 innings. Pitching 77 times and giving away 6 runs off 8 hits and 2 walks, while striking out just one batter, produced one of his worst performance cards for the season.
Starting off with a 12 game winning streak at home, the Philadelphia Phillies were looking to maintain the tally, but due to poor pitching exhibition, the team lagged far behind the Dodgers, who were piling up on runs like titans. The eventual demise of the team came in the end of the top 6th as the Los Angeles team made things very difficult for the rivals.
The dodgers came into the match with a win as Ted Lily had been the orchestrator of that game before. The veteran pitcher, Vicente Padilla returned after his last week’s stellar winning performance against the San Diego Padres. The Nicaraguan came back as the starting pitcher to put Manager, Joe Torre at a comfortable position to get the team back in their mood to score and win games.
Vicente produced a reasonable performance as he pitched a total of 83 times in the 5 innings he played. He managed to strike out 2 players and allowed 6 hits, of which 2 were runs. The inexperienced player gave away 2 walks and was considered reasonably better than his other half, Kendrick, who had one of the worst nights in the season. Padilla lost his momentum after the first 3 innings as the night was soaring hot with 91 degrees.
To highlight the bout, the scoring initiative came from Ethier in the top 1st, as he led a single to the centre to give Scott Podsednik the room to score the first for the Los Angeles team. The team returned to the scoring form by pouncing around the park, again in the top 3rd as Ryan Theriot scored off an Ethier double to the deep centre. Jay Gibbons would later hit a single to get Ethier’s first run.
In the top 4th, the Dodgers would get back to the scoring sheet after Theriot hit a sacrifice fly to the right, getting Brad Ausmus the first run of the match. Anotnio Bastardo would later replace Kendrick for pitching duties but that would have no effects on the match as Padilla would find himself on the score sheet as Ethier would single the ball down the right.
Podsednik would follow subsequently as James Loney would single to the left. And finally, Ethier would find his second run of the match with a Casey Blake single down the deep right.  Dominic Brown would respond for the Phillies in the bottom 4th as he would hit a sacrifice fly to get Placido Polancho to get on the score board for the teams’ first in the match.
The Phillies would further reduce the Dodgers lead as W Valdez would score off a Polancho grounder to the third. Simultaneously, Ross Gload would bang a 384 foot homer to the right to get himself and second base holder, Jimmy Rollins on the score sheet. The Dodgers would later bring the lead back in the top 6th as Teriot would score off Loney and Ethier would score his third off a Blake sacrifice fly to the right. Jay Gibbons would then hit an amazing 383 homer down the right to get himself and Looney on the scoring board again. The score line would read, 11 Los Angeles – 4 Philadelphia.
Brown, being the Phillies strong hitter for the night would go to score a run in the bottom 6th as he would smash an amazing 408 feet homer to the right. The run would make no difference as Theriot and Loney would score again off Matt Kemp’s single to the right centre, in the top 7th.
The to and fro would continue as The Phillies’ Gload would bang a 418 homer down the right centre to get himself and Greg Dobbs, a run each. The score at the end of the bottom 7th would read 13 Los Angeles – 7 Philadelphia. The scoring would continue in the top 9th as Blake would Boom a 353 feet homer to the left and Ethier would get back on the score sheet with 4 runs in total for this match alone. A conclusion in a series of scoring would come from a Brown double to the deep left as Gload and Raul Ibanez would cross the last base to get their team, a total of 9 runs against the Dodgers’ 15. Thos would mark the end of the match and would bring both teams to conform a hitting spectacle as the match’s main tag line.
It can only be said that the Dodgers are getting better as they look to break the third rank in the National League Western Division. They’re performance today would deter many teams in the league and their current series opponents would look to bring in a better defensive side for their encounter later in the night.
As for the Phillies, they would want to start things up in a new format so their standings in the Eastern Division would better be reinforced in the coming days as they would look and hope for better title shots in the coming days.
