Andre Ethier’s 10th inning homer guides Los Angeles Dodgers over Florida Marlins 5-4 – MLB Update
Los Angeles Dodgers’ out-fielder Andre Ethier hit a decisive homer in the 10th inning as the club snatched a 5-4 victory against the Florida Marlins at Sun Life Stadium in Florida on April 27.
Ethier went 2-for-5 and made two runs. It was considered as a record when Ethier extended his hitting streak up to 24 games in the current Major League Baseball season. He was feeling fit until the last inning of the game and proved his play by hitting the
winning shot. His batting average increased to .380.
Ethier said of his entrance in a team, “I'm just trying to do what the situation calls for. This road trip was kind of a tough one to stay focused and keep the energy up, with four day games out of the six. I don't think I've been up at 4:30, other than
last winter to catch a flight for vacation.”
The Marlins rallied their team in the second inning when Chris Coghlan took a three run double and led off 4-0. In the later innings, Greg Dobbs hit a shot while Emilio Bonifacio missed out the sacrifice hit and both the runners were hit out before reaching
the base. John Buck was ground out and Scott Cousins was struck out.
The Dodgers opened their scorecard in the fourth inning when Ethier made a single. Rod Barajas struck a two-out homer while James Loney also took a single run to close the lead 4-3. Barajas hit five homers out of his 14 hits in this season. The Dodgers’
pinch-hitter Juan Uribe then completed his RBI single to tie the score 4-4 in the seventh inning. After that Ethier managed to enclose the Marlins 5-4.
Speaking to reporters, the Dodgers’ Manager Don Mattingly said, “We got big hits all over the place. We got big outs all over the place.”
The Dodgers’ starter Chad Billingsley was little bit expensive as he gave away four runs on five hits including four earned runs and three strike-outs in six inning pitches. While Vicente Padilla was amazing as he threw an ideal 10th inning for
his first save after bouncing back in the roster from the disabled list. He took over the place of Jonathan Broxton, who missed out the game due to elbow injury.
The Marlins’ Manager Edwin Rodriguez was not very disappointed as he said, “It was too hot out there. He was making a lot of effort on his pitches. And the bullpen was fresh.”
The Marlins’ starter Anibal Sanchez pitched accurately until the fourth inning as he did not allow a run to the Dodgers but in the fifth inning, he lost his momentum and gave away three runs on the fourth hit and had only four strike-outs in five inning
pitches. Brian Sanches permitted a home-run in the end which resulted in their loss.
