Andre Greipel wins the second stage of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey 2012
Andre Greipel of Team Omega Pharma-Lotto continued his dominance at the top level of cycling after his splendid performance during the second stage of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey.
The Dutch out-sprinted the race favourites with his magical form which earned him an important victory during the Turkish event.
The cyclist launched his attack in the final 200 metres and reached the finish line with an impressive time of 3 hours, 16 minutes and 4 seconds.
Matthew Harley Goss, Matteo Pelucchi, Mark Renshaw and Andre Schulze occupied the second, the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Greipel was unlucky during the opening stage of the race after he caught up in a crash which ruined his chances for the event.
He had to adjust for the 94th overall spot as Theo Bos of Team Rabobank sailed through the finish line and secured his second win of the 2012 season.
Andrew noted after registering the stage 2 win, "I was not really frustrated yesterday. Crashes happen but it's a great morale booster to be able to win as early as the second stage”.
“The Tour of Turkey is a nice race, it is getting bigger every year and it is lucky to have all these great sprinters coming here to prepare for the Giro”.
“It's not often that you have a race like this with most of the greatest sprinters in the world. I'm here to start my preparation for the rest of the season leading up to the Tour de France and it's a good start", he concluded.
The 29-year-old filled his bag with important 15 UCI points during the second stage of the race.
Matthew Harley Goss, Matteo Pelucchi and Mark Renshaw achieved 14, 13 and 12 points respectively.
Harley Goss has now jumped up to the top spot after the stage 2 classifications. Andre Greipel is 2 seconds behind at the second position.
Matteo Pelucchi currently occupies the third overall spot with a deficit of 8 seconds while the stage 1 winner has now dropped down to the fourth overall spot.
Andre is now eyeing the 152 kilometre stage 3 of the race to ensure his dominance at the final general classifications.
