Andre Greipel wins the stage 1 of the Skoda-Tour de Luxembourg 2012
Andre Greipel filled his bag with yet another victory during the 181 kilometre stage 1 of the Skoda-Tour de Luxembourg 2012.
He rode brilliantly during the 181 kilometre race in a quickest time of 4 hours, 53 minutes and 56 seconds and restricted the race favourites.
Davide Appollonio of Team Sky Procycling, Samuel Dumoulin of Team Cofidis, Le Credit En Ligne, Romain Feillu of Team Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling and Koen De Kort of Team Argos-Shimano achieved the next four spots.
The German is having a splendid season and has already bagged several wins during the first half of the season.
He bagged three stages at the Santos Tour Down Under, two stages at the Tour of Oman, three at the Tour of Belgium and one at the Tour of Turkey.
While commenting on the race, Jens Voigt briefed, "I thought maybe I could take the stage win and the yellow jersey”.
“I was believing in myself today, especially when the gap was something close to three minutes. I gave it everything I had".
Greipel is enjoying a terrific form after his splendid performance during the first part of the season.
His dominating form was evident during the stage 1 of the Tour De Luxembourg as he also secured the top position with maximum number of 20 points in his back pocket.
Albert Timmer of Team Argos-Shimano succeeded during the first, the second and the third mountain stages of the race while Jesus Rosendo Prado of Team Andalucia finishing at the second spot.
The opening prologue winner, Jimmy Engoulvent of Team Saur-Sojasun finished at the 21st position but maintained his overall dominance after the stage 1 classifications.
He is leading the category with a margin of 3 seconds over Jimmy Engoulvent.
Jonathan Hivert of Team Saur-Sojasun, Mathew Hayman of Team Sky Procycling and Jakob Fuglsang of Team RadioShack-Nissan secured the third, the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Tom Dumoulin of Team Argos-Shimano, Wouter Poels of Team Vacansoleil-DCM and Tobias Ludvigsson of Team Argos-Shimano are leading the stage 1 young rider’s classifications.
Adrien Petit of Team Cofidis, Le Credit En Ligne, Bob Jungels of Team Luxembourg and Ben Swift of Team Sky Procycling are holding the fourth, the fifth and the sixth positions in the respective order.
