Andre Iguodala leads as Philadelphia 76ers stun Boston Celtics in Game 4 – NBA Playoffs Recap
The Philadelphia 76ers came from behind to defeat the Boston Celtics 92-83 in game 4 of their Eastern Conference Semi Final series and tie the series at 2 games apiece.
The Sixers had some troubles in the first half, and were trailing by 31-46 at halftime. They, however, came back strongly in the 2nd half to outscore the Celtics 61-37 in the final two
periods.
Andre Iguodala had 16 points on the night and scored his last 7 points in the game winning 16-4 run that capped the game. Paul Pierce had 24 points for the Celtics. He was 8 of 13 from the field, including 4
of 6 from the distance.
The Sixers got off to a poor start, as they were outscored by the Celtics 24-12 in the first period alone. They could not find any rhythm offensively, finishing with a paltry 12 points. Their worries continued
in the 2nd period with them only managing 19 points. Philadelphia was 9 of 39 from the field in the first half, which allowed Boston to take a 46-31 lead into halftime.
The Sixers came back with a bang in the third period, scoring 28 points and holding the Celtics to only 17. This helped reduce the deficit and brought them back into the game. They trailed by only 4 points going
into the final period.
The Sixers tied the game after trailing by as many as 18 points in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter through a finger roll by Thaddeus Young. Rondo’s finger roll tied the game at 83 with 1:38 left in
the game. That is when Iguodala stepped in, scoring a jump shot and following that with a three pointer after Rondo’s layup was blocked by Young. This 5-0 run put the Sixers up 88-83 with 36 seconds left in the game. The Celtics could not score a point after
that, going 0-4 in the last one and a half minute of the game. The Sixers took the game 92-83.
Philadelphia shot 22 of 43 in the second half and outscored the Celtics in both the third and fourth quarters. They were 37.8% from the field for the night and 5 of 11 from the distance, although they shot only
69.4% from the foul line. The Celtics shot 42.3% from the field and 30.4% from the distance, while going 16 of 19 from the foul line.
The Sixers once again outnumbered the Celtics in rebounds, this time by a 52-38 advantage. Boston also had 6 more turnovers than the Sixers at 17 and were outscored 34-26 in the paint after piling up 50 in the
paint in their game 3 victory.
Evan Turner was 5 of 22 from the field for his 16 points but nonetheless his addition was valuable. He also had 9 rebounds. Jrue Holiday had 11 points and 7 rebounds and Young added 12 points and 9 rebounds.
Louis Williams had 15 points and 8 assists to finish a good night for the Sixers bench with a contribution of 44 points. Spencer Hawes struggled once again with only 2 points and 3 rebounds. He played only 15 minutes in the game.
Paul Pierce led the Celtics scoring with 24 points, while Rondo finished with 15 points and 15 assists. Brandon Bass also contributed 15 points, going 6 of 10 from the field. Kevin Garnett, who had a monster
game 3 with 27 points, had only 9 points to go with his 11 rebounds for the night. The All Star forward, who is averaging 63% from the field in the first three games, was only 3 of 12 in game 4 as the Sixers defense took his out of the equation.
The series now shifts back to Boston with game 5, which will take place on Monday.
