Andre Iguodala misses crucial free throws as Golden State Warriors take thrilling victory over Denver Nuggets – NBA Recap
The Golden State Warriors continued to exceed expectations from them this season when they moved to a 9-6 record on Thursday night by defeating the visiting Denver Nuggets 106-105 in a close and thrilling game. The Warriors were
outplayed by the hustle play and transition game of the charging Nuggets, being outscored 35-21 in the period. However, they turned the game around in the final period by outscoring the Nuggets 28-19, winning the game in a thrilling finish. David Lee led the
Warriors with 31 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists while going 13 of 15 from the field. Klay Thompson had 21 points and 9 rebounds on the night, where as Stephen Curry also added 20 points and 10 assists. Andre Iguodala was the highest scorer for the Nuggets,
finishing with 22 points. Danilo Galinari had 20 points and 9 rebounds for the night, where as Ty Lawson finished with 17 points and 9 assists.
The Warriors came out firing on all cylinders to open the game, starting with a 13-3 run to take an early lead as the Nuggets struggled to find their offensive rhythm to start. A turnaround hook shot by Lee had them up 19-10, and
Jarrett Jack scored a three to have the Warriors leading 22-14. However, the Nuggets soon found their game and came back in the game, with a driving layup followed by a three pointer by Corey Brewer having them trailing 21-25. Jack scored another three to
put the Warriors up 30-21, and they led 30-25 at the end of the period.
The Warriors started where they left off in the first period, with Curry scoring a three to put them up 37-29. Iguodala scored back to back field goals to put the Nuggets within 5, and the Nuggets later went on a 13-2 run capped
off by a three pointer by Jordan Hamilton to give them a 47-45 lead. The Nuggets then went on another 7-0 run, extending their lead to 54-47. The Nuggets completely outplayed the Warriors in their second period as they ran the court hard, and led 60-51 at
halftime.
Back to back three pointers by Ty Lawson had the Nuggets up 73-57, and a slam dunk by Iguodala later in the period had them up 83-68. However, the Warriors attempted a comeback in the final minutes of the period and trailed 78-86
entering the final period.
A jump shot followed by a three pointer by Thompson had the Warriors trailing 88-91 in the early going of the final period, and Lee gave them the 94-93 lead moments later with a layup. Lawson then scored a three point play and
Iguodala followed with a layup to tie the game at 102 with 2:59 remaining. Jack then scored a crucial layup to put the Warriors up 106-103, after which both teams missed opportunities to seal the fate of the game. Iguodala scored two free throws and had the
Nuggets trailing 105-106 but missed his third free throw that could have tied the game. The Warriors held on to win 106-105 in the end.
