Andre Iguodala still pondering on the Philadelphia 76ers roster changes – NBA Update
Ever since the Philadelphia 76ers suffered a season ending loss in the Eastern Conference Semifinals against Boston Celtics, Andre Iguodala has not taken any time off from basketball. The hard work he put in reaped significant benefits as he was given one of the final three slots in team USA bound for Olympics.
With a busy schedule while training along team USA in Washington, Iguodala is yet to completely grasp the changes that have taken place in the Sixers roster this off-season.
Talking to the reporters recently, Iguodala revealed that even though he has not been able to give the Sixer moves much attention, but has shared a conversation or two with Louis Williams and Elton Brand – two players who will no longer be the part of the Philadelphia franchise.
“I haven’t really thought about it,” Iguodala said, “I’ve been pretty busy with all this stuff going on, but I spoke to Lou and I spoke with Elton a little bit.”
Williams, a restricted free agent this summer, did not receive a contract extension from the Sixers thus resulting in his decision to sign with the Atlanta Hawks. At the same time Philadelphia also used the amnesty clause to waive off Elton Brand who still had one year left on his contract worth $18 million. The veteran is now heading over to join the Dallas Mavericks.
These recent moves have been smart keeping the financial aspect in view. However the Sixers have taken a big gamble by letting Williams walk. The star bench was their top scorer last season and stood second only to James Harden in the race to NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year.
At the moment Iguodala does have his eyes set on winning gold in the Olympics. Alongside James Harden, he is expected to relieve Kobe Bryant at the shooting guard position. Iguodala is a defensive specialist and will be looking to continue doing much of the same;
“My focus has been on the U.S. team,” Iguodala said. “My role is a little bit different, but not that much of a change.”
