Andre Iguodala wants to stay with the Denver Nuggets longer then his current contract – NBA Update
Andre Iguodala is now a Denver Nugget and the one time All-Star wants to stick around to be a part of the team’s future.
The All-Star came over to the Nuggets as part of a trade involving four teams which saw Dwight Howard traded over to the Los Angeles Lakers and him saying good-bye to the Philadelphia 76ers.
In his introductory press conference at the Pepsi Centre on Thursday, Iguodala made it clear that he wants to stick around longer then his current contract allows him to, which is going to expire at the end of the coming season.
"We weren't coming into this thinking this will be a one-year deal,'' Iguodala said. "... This is definitely a place that I can see myself for more than just a year or two.''
Iguodala is coming in from a successful campaign with team USA at the London Olympics. The guard helped the Americans win back to back gold medal by beating Spain in the Final.
The trade which saw the former Philadelphia man come over to Denver was orchestrated during the Olympics. So Iguodala had the opportunity to have a conversation with Carmelo Anthony – a player who had played under George Karl when
he was part of the Nuggets.
"He said I would be a perfect fit for Coach Karl. We two would really gel together,'' – Iguodala reflected Anthony’s comments.
As part of the trade, Denver parted ways Arron Afflalo and Al Harrington to the Orlando Magic but in exchange have gotten their hands on a player who can be a perfect fit for their fast paced system.
Iguodala is known for his ability to play perimeter defence and attacking the basket pretty well in transition. This makes him an easy target for point guards like Ty Lawson and Andre Miller who are more than adept on playing the
ball up the floor – something Iguodala is well aware of.
"You just run fast, it's pretty simple,'' Iguodala said. "Especially with the two point guards we have in Ty (Lawson) and Andre Miller. The pass ahead is really what gets it going.''
Following Iguodala’s comments regarding his future with the Denver organization, general manager Masai Ujiri has stated that he would be working to help the Olympic gold medallist have a longer stay.
