Andre Iguodala`s future with the Philadelphia 76ers still uncertain – NBA Update
Much like last year, a big question mark still looms over the future of Philadelphia Sixers best asset Andre Iguodala.
The talks of him leaving the franchise were there after last season as well, when the Sixers were eliminated by the Miami Heat in the first round and they have returned this year after the Boston Celtics beat them in seven games
to qualify for the Eastern Conference Finals.
When asked about his future, Iguodala opted to not comment contemplated that he is just focussing on making it to the US Olympic team which will take part in the London Games in August.
“I'm not going to put too much thought into that right now," Iguodala said "I've got a big summer ahead of me, and I'm focusing on that. We'll see how it works out and then we'll see from there. But that's out of my hands. I don't
want to get into that right now."
As the current situation of Iguodala`s contract stands with the franchise, he has the option for signing another two years contract depending on whether he chooses to stay on perks worth $15 million.
AI, who was drafted by the Sixers as the ninth overall pick in the draft, has had a career average of 15.3 points per game. But his season average this year has seen a huge drop to 12.4. Even though he has not been very productive
on the offensive end, he has come to be known as one of the better defenders in the league. His exclusion for the All-NBA defensive team came as a surprise.
In Game-7 against the C’s, which may yet turn out to be his last game for the Sixers, he had the responsibility of guarding Paul Pierce and played excellent D on him throughout the night. He held Pierce to only 15 points in the
game before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
He also managed to score 18 points in the game on a 5 of 11 shooting performance but despite leading the team in scoring, his effort was not enough to keep his team`s playoff run alive.
Along with his average scoring dropping down, the struggles from the free throw line have been very prominent as well.
Doug Collins, the Phillies head coach, has hinted to the possibility of team changes as part of the every off season and it would not come as much of a surprise to see the Sixers roster see some changes in the break.
"We have to grow as a team. We have to add some more pieces. We know that," Collins said, "But this team will not be the same team next year. That's the nature of sports."
