Andre Miller decides to sign back with the Denver Nuggets – NBA Report
The Denver Nuggets have signed Andre Miller to a three year contract, according to Mark J. Spears and Yahoo! Sports.
“Nuggets agree to re-sign guard Andre Miller to a three-year deal, sources tell Yahoo! Sports,” said Spears.
Miller is a 36 year old veteran point guard in the NBA who played with the Denver Nuggets last season. He was drafted in the 1999 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers and has since played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia
76ers and the Portland Trail Blazers.
He averaged just under 10 points and 7 assists while playing 27 minutes per game last season with the Nuggets. Miller took on a supportive role with the Nuggets team and started coming off the bench this past season as he made
way for the Nuggets new point guard Ty Lawson. Lawson averaged 16.4 points and 6.6 assists per game this past season.
Miller had said during the regular season that he was looking for a new team after the season finished as he was not comfortable with a supportive role and felt he still had the energy and athleticism to play starting point guard.
He further added that if he had to accept a supportive role, he would do it on a championship calibre team. Then there was news that Miller was thinking of returning to the Nuggets franchise.
A good performance by the Nuggets in the playoffs where they took the Los Angeles Lakers to seven games in the first round might have helped change Miller’s perception about the team’s future. He is now all set to return to the
team for three years. The team will be looking for Miller to mentor Lawson as he gradually takes over the charge of the team. Lawson has had a great season with the Nuggets and the franchise is looking to invest in the player long term.
Miller extensive playoff experience might also have helped him land a role in the Nuggets team. He averages 15.7 points in 46 playoff games and has the post season experience that the rest of the Nuggets team crave and do not have.
His role will be that of a mentor as he takes a back seat and helps the team learn and grow in the NBA.
