Andre Miller eyeing possible return to the Denver Nuggets – NBA News
This year’s free agency class is filled with quality point guards, and leading that class is New Jersey Nets guard Deron Williams. He is the hottest guy on the market at the moment. Steve Nash is also scheduled to become a free
agent in July, and his addition to any team can catapult their chances of success in the short term. Jason Kidd is one more experienced one guard who is available on the market this offseason. And then there is the 36 year old Andre Miller.
Miller played for the Denver Nuggets last season, in which he took a backup role to Ty Lawson. He is scheduled to become a free agent this summer and a few months ago, he said that if he had to play off the bench, he would rather
do it for a championship contending team.
This was seen as a signal that Miller would not be returning to Denver next season and look for a place in a team which is capable of winning championships immediately.
However, it seems now that Miller might just return to the Nuggets after all for next season. The Denver Post has reported that Miller has met with team management and in now leaning towards coming back to the Nuggets for next
season.
“Nuggets executive Masai Ujiri has said that he and Miller, a 36-year-old free agent, have had positive discussions about Miller returning to Denver. Miller is one of coach George Karl’s favorite players. If he returns to the Nuggets,
Miller will continue to play big minutes off the bench,” said the Post.
The change in Miller’s thinking might have come after the Denver Nuggets finished off their regular season at 6th position ahead of the defending champions Dallas Mavericks. They then gave tough competition to the Los
Angeles Lakers in the 1st round of the playoffs, losing in 7 games after a toughly contested series.
With the kind of season the Nuggets have had, combined with the 20th pick in this year’s draft and a legendary coach in George Karl, the Nuggets can look forward to even more success.
With a young and athletic core, the Nuggets have the ability to upset the best of teams. Miller might now feel that his services could be better utilized in Denver, where he is comfortable with the coach and the style of play.
If he is promised good minutes coming off the bench, Miller might just re-sign with Denver in hopes of the team finishing even better next season.
It will ultimately depends on how much money teams are willing to pay him, but after the recent talks the Nuggets management is hopeful that he will be back next season.
