Andre Miller might not return to the Denver Nuggets next season – NBA Update
Andre Miller has expressed his desire to move on from the Denver Nuggets. He said this in a press conference after the Game-7 of the first round playoffs series between the Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers.
“At this point in my career, if I’m going to be a backup, I’m going to be a backup on a championship-calibre team. Obviously, this team is a good team that’s going to get to the playoffs, but the thing is if they are committed
to getting to that next level to compete for that championship” said Miller.
“It’s just whether I can swallow my pride and deal with being a backup point guard. I have no problem with it, but at the same time I definitely still see myself as a starter in this league. Like I said, you have to swallow your
pride sometimes” he added
Miller was traded to Denver on draft night last year from the Portland Trail Blazers. He had developed a good chemistry with LaMarcus Aldridge but was moved to make way for Raymond Felton. Miller moved to Denver where he became
a back up for starting guard Ty Lawson.
He has had a good season - averaging 9.7 points and 6.7 assists - with the Nuggets, who were able to push the Lakers to 7 games in their first round playoff series. However, this season is over and now Miller looks to the future.
It seems that Miller does not look convinced that Denver are championship contenders and he has every reason to believe that. The Nuggets would have been in the conference semifinals had there been one major superstar in the team.
All Denver had was a bunch of above average players, who were agile and motivated to punch above their weight. And they had to contend with Kobe Bryant. The star Lakers guard had to be double teamed throughout the series and it opened the floor for other LAL
players.
Also with Ty Lawson already set in the starting five, it is unlikely Miller will get to start if he stays at Denver. This opens up teams such as Miami, Lakers, Mavericks, Spurs and Celtics, who are good title contending teams and
keep picking role players to help them along the way.
Miller would be a good addition to the team as the 13 year veteran holds a great deal of experience, and is a good defender who can hit open shots and give the playing five another offensive option. His experience with the Nuggets
will also add to his repertoire. Now what remains to be seen is if anyone will be willing to offer him a place according to his requirements, or will be come back to Denver for another season.
