Andre Miller upbeat about Denver Nuggets return – NBA Update
Andre Miller has declared that he is happy to come back to his old hunting ground, Denver. The veteran point guard was traded to the Denver Nuggets by former team Portland Trail Blazers on Draft night along with Jordan Hamilton,
the 26th pick, and a future second-round pick for Denver’s Raymond Felton.
Miller started his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers and came to the Denver Nuggets via Los Angeles Clippers back in 2003. Miller found his groove with the Nuggets and quickly fell in love with the city and the coach. He
was reportedly very happy with things in Denver before the 2006 trade that saw Miller shipped out by the Nuggets in order to acquire superstar Allen Iverson.
Now back in the town he calls home, Miller stated his delight at the move,
"It's more of a comfortable move for me because I have my house here and I get to sleep in my own bed again," he said.
At the time of his departure though, Miller was pretty upset with the Denver management. Looking back at the whole affair after around 4 ½ years, Miller recalls how it drove him to perform better,
"Honestly, I took it personal, the trade, and that was my motivation every time we came here to play," Miller said Monday. "It was just how it went down. I understand it was part of the business. It was just how it went down."
Miller averaged 12.7 points per game last season with the Trail Blazers as well as 1.4 steals. However, his true value lies in his ability as a playmaker, with Miller averaging 7.0 assists during the same period. Denver are happy
to get a player they believe can help guide the young talented roster they posses on and off the court. A reunion with Coach George Karl, a favourite of Miller's is also expected to work well for the Nuggets.
Miller’s new teammate, Jordan Hamilton, who was also presented to the media alongside the 12 year veteran, praised Andre. Jordan Hamilton believed that Miller’s eye for a pass is something that will definitely help the team and
it will Miller will also be better off playing in a team like the Denver Nuggets,
"He's a great passer, he facilitates and he gets his wings the ball," said Hamilton. "He'll definitely get his assists up."
Andre Miller echoed the sentiments. He believed that the current Denver Nuggets roster was filled with a lot of talented players who can go on to achieve good things in their career. Miller overall he was very pleased to here,
“There's a lot of talent here, inside and outside, a lot of hustlers and I'm happy to be around that."
