Andre Miller will talk to Miami Heat this offseason - NBA Report
Denver Nuggets seasoned point guard Andre Miller is eyeing the Miami Heat this summer. There are reports that the veteran will be talking to Miami’s front office in this offseason.
The 36-year-old point guard wants to run with a championship calibre team at the twilight of his career. Nuggets were ousted by Los Angeles Lakers in the 1st round of playoffs and despite putting on an incredible show,
George Karl; the Denver Coach opted to play Miller as a backup for Ty Lawson. That did not go well with the one guard and now that he is a free agent, he wants to join a genuine championship contender without a solid option at point;
“I’ll keep my options open,” Miller had said nearly a month ago. “At this point in my career, if I’m going to be a backup, I’m going to be a backup on a championship-calibre team. Obviously, this team is a good team that’s going
to get to the playoffs, but the thing is if they are committed to getting to that next level to compete for that championship.”
Andre averaged 11.3 points, 6.0 assists and 5.6 boards in the 7 postseason games while in the regular season he averaged 9.7 points, 6.7 assist and 3.3 boards. He is however not the first point guard to be linked with the Heat,
who are currently tied at three games each with the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Steve Nash, the iconic swingman from Phoenix Suns, has also been on Miami’s radar. His name emerged after Nash himself hinted towards Heat as an option last month. However, the current salary cap of Miami is very thin and there
won’t be many financial perks available for a player of Nash’s stature. But, given that a championship ring is about the only thing missing in Nash’s resume, the Suns star might want to join Heat.
Miller made $7.8 million in the final year of his contract with the Nuggets and if he does opt for Miami come summer time, he will also have to take settle for much less money.
