The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 striker is hopeful of doing well for the club next season after a two-year nightmare and is adamant that he always had a great relationship with coach Elie Baup
With just 9 goals in 51 Ligue 1 appearances, Olympique de Marseille striker, Andre-Pierre Gignac cannot be considered as a successful acquisition by any means.
The striker was snapped up by the Rhone club in the summer of 2010 from Toulouse for quite a lot of money. However, the player has so far, not been able to live up to his billing. Poor form and injuries have hindered Gignac’s progress who is far from the
player who scored goals for fun at Toulouse.
The new season starts in August and Gignac knows that he has a lot of catching up and preparation to do. While talking to reporters, the striker admitted that he has not been able to prepare well before a season for the past three years.
Though he admits that the last campaign was a difficult one for him, he is willing to give everything for the club especially after Marseille did so much for him.
“I want to give everything and show everything. These two seasons have been difficult with injuries and poor performance. I know I have a lot to prove and to be forgotten. OM made a lot of efforts to recruit me, now it’s up to me to help them.”
Although Gignac is seemingly keen on doing well, many people feel that the player’s history with the new coach Elie Baup could be a thorn. Reportedly, the duo had a strained relationship when Baup was a player at Toulouse.
However, Gignac says that he always had a good relationship with Baup and added that when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Johan-Elmander-c18782 was preferred over him, it was only a tactical decision and nothing more.
“It was he (Baup) who recruited me in Toulouse, but there was a balance in the team especially due to Elmander. It must be said that he had arranged formation to fit in Elmander. I was young, I was 21 at that time. With Elie, I spoke a lot from day one.
We had the right feeling and shared smiles.”
Gignac says that Baup will do well at Marseille and he will give each player a specific role.
