Though the Frenchman wants to stay at Olympique de Marseille, the management is keen on cutting down the payroll and will let go of the former Toulouse striker
Andre-Pierre Gignac has said that he wants to stay at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127. However, things might not happen the way he wants to.
The France international signed for Marseille in the summer of 2010 after a prolific campaign with Toulouse. However, the striker has failed to produce those performances for the Rhone giants and has become a luxury coach Didier Deschamps prefers not to
avail.
His two seasons at the Velodrome have been abysmal to say the least.
A few days back, the striker said that he wants to stay at the club because he does not want to leave as a failure.
“I hope so (to stay) because I feel like I have plenty to prove and forgive me for saying this but I do not want to leave as a failure,” said the player who endured a nightmarish 2011/2012 campaign with Les Phoceens.
The striker has scored just 9 goals in 51 games which is not a good statistic for a player who has been paid so much money.
However, despite all this, his agent, Jean-Christophe Cano is adamant that the player is determined to stay at the club.
“He will not move, he is determined to succeed at OM.”
Unfortunately for Gignac, lack of Champions League football and the ongoing renovation of the Velodrome will force the club to offload him. The 2010 champions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 are keen on reducing the payroll and will be forced to sell Gignac.
With a salary of 300,000 euros per month, Gignac is the highest-paid player in the squad. Furthermore, the striker’s salary will increase by 10% this summer under a clause in his contract.
If Marseille manage to retain the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mathieu-Valbuena-c24690 and Nicolas N’Koulou, they will need to sell players on big-money contracts.
A source close to the club claims that Gignac needs to understand that his time at the club is up.
“I did not think that we would say this, but we must recognise that he must leave Marseille. I have often defender him by saying that he would come back, but it is clear that this is not the case,” said the source who preferred his name to remain anonymous.
