Andre Schulze wins second stage in 2011 Course de Solidarnosc et des Champions Olympiques
CCC Polsat Polkowice team’s Andre Schulze showed his brilliant performance and won the second stage of 2011 Course de Solidarnosc et des Champions Olympiques on Thursday, June 30.
The race started in Jalso and ended in Krakow. The 36-year-old German racing cyclist took a total of 3 hours, 41 minutes and 21 seconds to cover the distance of 159.1 kilometres.
Recently, Andre won the Memorial Andrzeja Trochanowskiego and Neuseen Classics - Around the lignite. He also won the second stage of Course de la Solidarite Olympique in 2010.
Tino Meier of the LKT Brandenburg team was the runner-up and Tom Meeusen of Telenet – Fidea finished in the third spot.
Henning Bommel of the LKT Team Brandenburg team was in good form and tried his best to catch the other 10 cyclists, but was unable to maintain his pace and grabbed the 11th place with a difference of 7 seconds, ahead of Piotr Kirpsza and Piotr
Krajewski.
The six cyclists including Tomas Holub (AC Sparta Praha), Jakub Skrzeszewski (Legia – Felt) and Jakub Komar (Legia – Felt) were disqualified from the stage-race.
A group of four cyclists made their first breakaway, which included André Schulze (CCC Polsat Polkowice), Tino Meier (LKT Team Brandenburg), Tom Meeusen (Telenet – Fidea) and Robert Radosz (Pol).
All of them gained a lead of few seconds over the peloton and Steffon Radochla and Robert Radosz worked together to build a lead, but failed to do so. Tino Meier increased his pace and was followed by Andre.
However, after a few kilometres Andre maintained his pace and with the help of his team he crossed the finish line ahead of other cyclists.
Andre Schulze also took the overall lead with a timing of 8 hours, 2 minutes and 39 seconds. Tino Meire of LKT Team Brandenburg was the runner-up with 4 seconds behind the German.
Tom Meeusen (Telenet – Fidea) finished third with a difference of 6 seconds, while Steffen Radochla (Nutrixxion Sparkasse) was in the fourth spot with a difference of 9 seconds.
The next stage will start in Jedrzejow and ended in Kielce. All the riders will cover the distance of 166.8 kilometres.
