The winger admitted that the UEFA Europa League clash against Metalist Kharkiv will not be an easy one and is looking to make a winning start.
The Factory Squad have been drawn alongside Metalist Kharkiv, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rosenborg-BK-c40382 and Rapid Wien in Group K of the UEFA Europa League. The side finished fifth on the Bundesliga standings table last season and automatically qualified for
Europe’s second-tier competition.
Leverkusen will start their campaign against Metalist Kharkiv on Thursday, September 20, at the BayArena. The German outfit will be looking to progress through to the next round as they are certainly the strongest side on paper
in the group.
Schurrle claimed that a lot of work has not been done on the opposition thus far as the team was focussing on the league game against Borussia Dortmund, but is keen to put in an impressive performance in the Europa League opener.
The German international warned his side against any complacency and admitted that the opposition has made some good additions to the squad in the summer. He stated that Kharkiv have a strong side and stressed that the team cannot
be taken lightly.
“So far we have not gone into detail on our opponents. That will come this week. But I know the club has money, they have signed some players from South http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/America-c38390 and will certainly have a good, strong team on the pitch,” he was
quoted as saying in an interview.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FSV-Mainz-05-c38166 man added that the team will put the weekend defeat to Dortmund behind them and will be looking to put in a strong performance in front of the home fans. He is confident that things will get back on track soon
and the team will be performing on a consistent basis.
“When you don't succeed, you have to rally together, rather than go around with your head down. We have analysed [the performance] and know we have to do better. I am sure we'll show a different side to us soon,” he concluded.
Bayer Leverkusen will play their second game against Rosenborg BK on Thursday, October 4.
