The match was played on Friday, 15 April which the O-Fives won, courtesy of a solitary goal from Andre Schurrle.

Mainz got the game underway and were favourites to ease past the struggling Foals. The Carnival club certainly got the game off to a bright start and looked in complete control as relegation battlers were more determined to defend than to attack. Schurrle and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Elkin-Soto-c12327 were already causing a lot of problems for the visitors that forced a number of tackles out of Favre’s outfit. In spite of being in ascendancy, Mainz could not find the back of the net as the Foals continued to sit back.
Suddenly, Foals Striker, Hanke, made a run forward but charged down the defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Kirchhoff-c17769 at the 28th minute mark that resulted in a yellow card for the German international. FSV were unable to gain any sort of advantage in the first half as the referee drew it to a close with both teams locked at 0-0. The home team enjoyed 54% of ball possession as compared to the opposition’s 46%.
The second half was not much different in terms of the ball possession. The O-Fives looked in command and continued to press forward. Borussia were forced to lay back when they seemed to be gaining confidence going forward. Foals midfielder, Roman Neustadter, fired in a rare shot from outside the box which was saved by Wetklo on the 52nd minute mark.
Just when the visitors were starting to make inroads, Hanke committed a foul on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eugen-Polanski-c12957 and was given the marching orders, leaving the Foals down to ten men.
FSV had the numerical advantage and certainly looked dangerous in the latter stages of the match. On the 87th minute mark, the O-Fives got a free kick from just outside the box and Schurrle smashed his kick into the back of the net to make it 1-0 for Mainz. This goal broke Foals heart as their resistance was eventually broken, just a few minutes from time. The match ended 1-0 in FSV’s favour as Monchengladbach were left rooted at the bottom.
With this win, FSV Mainz 05 move to 5th place on the table with 48 points, 4 points adrift from the fourth placed Bayern Munich. Borussia Monchengladbach are placed at the bottom with 26 points and four points behind the 15th placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881.
The O-Fives will take on 1. FC Nurnberg on Sunday, 24 April while the Foals will host Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, 23 April in their next game.
