Andre Stolz the champion of Indonesia PGA Championship – OneAsia Update
OneAsia’s inaugural tournament of the Indonesia Professional Golfer’s Association Championship finished yesterday at the par-72, Imperial Klub Golf in Jakarta. Andre Stolz of Australia sealed his first win playing on this tour by carding a final round of
four-under par, 68.
Stolz is a seasoned player and has loads of experience on his shoulders. He managed a brilliant final round of four-under playing in a pressure situation on the final day. The 40-year-old certainly showed his brilliance with his iron shots on the field.
This was his maiden victory and was overwhelmed with his stroke making on the greens.
The Australian had five birdies and a single bogey on his card on the final day. His only bogey did not turn out to be costly for him, as he won by a margin of one stroke against the overnight leader Rory Hie.
Andre has also won a couple of tournaments playing on his domestic tour in Australia. His record also shows a single PGA Tour win seven years back in the Michelin Championship. This was Stolz’s second win playing in Asia.
At the prize distribution ceremony, Andre said, "I had to completely remodel my swing. The second half of last year I started to play really well and this week I played great but the putter was misbehaving. I had prepared so hard. However, I am proud of
the way I finished the round and this final day has been a great learning experience."
The overnight leader Hie of the host country faltered just one shot behind the winner. Hie managed to post a moderate round of even-par, but was not enough for him to win on his home soil. He played exceedingly well during all the three days, but Sunday
was not a good outing for him. His total four day aggregate score was thirteen-under par, 275.
The 22-year-old Hie was disappointed with his game on the final day, as he looked confident all three days, but failed to hold his nerve on the final day.
Two players shared the second position on the score board after the final day. New Zealand’s Gareth Paddison and Korean Eun-shin Park were two shots behind the winner. They had an identical score of twelve-under par, 276 after four rounds.
Paddison improved his position on the score board after the final round finished. He had a brilliant final round of four-under par and was bogey free on his card. The Kiwi really putted well on the final day, which helped him improve his position to be among
the top-five.
The Thai veteran Thaworn Wiratchant finished at the fourth place, as he had a total four day score of eleven-under par, 277.
China’s ace player Liang Wenchong had a catastrophic final round of four-over par, 76. He is an experienced player and has won many tournaments playing on this tour. It was a misery on the final day for him, as he finished tied for the 28th spot.

The smiling Stolz lifted the winner’s trophy and a cheque of US$ 180,000. He will now be eyeing the Volvo China Open which starts next month.
