Andre Villas-Boas appoints former Chelsea reserve coach Steve Holland as the assistant coach
Former Chelsea reserve coach Steve Holland has been appointed the assistant coach by the new Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 manager has made some notable changes in the Chelsea management team since being appointed as the new manager.
The first thing he did was to appoint http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Sousa to work with the existing goal-keeping coach Christophe Lollichon.
His recent addition to the Chelsea first squad management team is the appointment of Holland, which sees the reserve side coach move up. The promotion, as some would call it, will see Holland manage the first team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
The Englishman, who joined Chelsea in 2009, revealed he was extremely excited at the prospect of being given the position of the assistant coach. He said his appointment had happened over the phone while he was on vacation.
Holland said in an interview:
“It's something I'm very proud to have been asked to do and I'm excited and looking forward to helping Andre and supporting the team.”
At the same time Holland admitted he was sad at having to say goodbye to former Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti and the previous management team, with whom he had previously worked.
However, he revealed he was looking forward to the 2011-2012 season and helping the ambitious young Chelsea manager reach his goals with the London side.
The former Chelsea reserves coach said:
“If I'm honest that is also balanced with an element of sadness.
At any football club when there is change and staff members go, especially if you've had a good relationship, it is sad to see people go, so all things considered it has been a really strange week.”
Holland did an excellent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 with the reserve team last season, which saw them clinch the national championship. It was this success that caught the attention of Villas-Boas and earned Holland a passage to the senior squad.
Holland said he wished to gain the same success with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 first team, who did not have a particularly good last season.
Holland continued:
“Coming here a couple of years ago, the development teams play with that philosophy, the reserves did last year and Andre is exactly the same so it is a good fit.”
