Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed he believes striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 is just a goal away from returning to goal scoring form.
The 27-year-old Spaniard produced one of his best performances against Sunderland for the Blues since moving to Stamford Bridge from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 last winter transfer window. Unfortunately he was unable to find the back of the net in an otherwise superb match, which the Blues won 1-0.
It was his effort that was converted by midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international revealed he owed his goal to the striker. Torres’ scissor kick ended crashing against the cross bar, which Lampard did well to ensure ended up in the oppositions goal.
Villas-Boas felt the striker had improved considerably but had been unlucky against the Black Cats over the weekend. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international was denied two penalty claims and even booked for diving when he was clearly shown to have been taken down.
Villas-Boas revealed in an interview:
“He's still not scoring but is ever so close to scoring, which is already good. Could happen. We will have to wait and see. Maybe a goal would help on the personal, inspiration level but we are not worried because he is doing well. Obviously, his confidence is improving and his form is improving.”
The Portuguese manager was certain it was only a matter of time before Torres would become the Blues' most prolific striker. He admitted luck had a lot to do with the striker’s form and ability to score goals but hoped Torres would overcome it with renewed confidence.
He revealed:
“It's down to luck when things like this happen. Of course, a goal scorer gets goals. But he's very willing to change his fortune and I think the goals will come.”
After bringing in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss did not feel the Blues were in need of further reinforcements. He was confident the existing squad would see the Blues succeed this season.
Villas-Boas continued:
“We are improving. We have a very good group of players and hopefully we can continue to motivate and push their talent and that can take us to high places.”
