Andre Villas-Boas does not appreciate the media attention that Chelsea’s Fernando Torres receives
Newly appointed Chelsea manager, Andre Villas-Boas has gone on to hit out at the media, who seem to have formed a bitter sweet relationship with Chelsea’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707.
The Spanish international was signed form http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, this past January for a massive fee of fifty million pounds. Ever since his move to the club, the forward has managed to find the back of the net only once, for his team in all competitive matches.
Despite that fact, Villas-Boas feels that it is only a matter of time before Torres gets up and running at his maximum potential once again.
When the manager was bombarded with questions about the forward and his form once again, the manager responded by addressing the obsession that the media had formed for the player, as he stated: "I wouldn't turn it into an obsession, like you people are
trying to. The most important thing for us is to score and win.”
"I disagree [that Torres lacks confidence]. Every time a player doesn't score, you ask questions about him.”
"Individual objectives don't play a part - in training or a game, particularly in pre-season. I do not want there to be an obsession with this.”
The manager then made it clear that his ultimate goal was to win big with his team and that, what he obsessed about, was winning trophies.
Villas-Boas then went on to add: "My obsession is to win trophies with this team and take this team to success."
Despite only being at the club for a couple of weeks, the Chelsea manager seems to have already gone on to prioritise his stay at the club. Villas-Boas seems to be well aware of what issues need to be highlighted at the club and which ones can be stroked
under the rug.
At the same time, the manager has gone on to place his faith in Torres and the player needs to somehow repay the manager’s trust in him.
Following his massive move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, Torres has really failed to impress for the Blues. The forward seems to be a mere shadow of his former self, as he now finds it close to impossible to do simple things like control the ball and shoot. He seems to have
lost all technique and should he not pick up his form, he could go down as one of the worst signings to ever be made.
What we can say in the forward’s favour, is that he just needs time to adjust with his new club, but with him now having spent ample time with the team, he really needs to pick up his game once the season re-starts in August.
