Andre Villas-Boas expects awkward start, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo remains confident
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas revealed he expected the Blues to get off to an awkward start as they prepare to begin their campaign against Stoke City.
Second place Chelsea will travel to Stoke City, a side who did surprisingly well in the English Premier League last season.
The appointment of the 33-year-old manager is the beginning of a new era at Stamford Bridge, a one expected to be filled with trophies.
With expectations going through the roof with what Villas-Boas will deliver in his first season at the London club, the Portuguese manager revealed he expected the opening of the Premier League to be shaky.
With an entirely new management team at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, Villas-Boas is aware that it will take time for the squad to adjust.
However, he confessed he was pleased with Chelsea’s opening fixtures, which were relatively easier than that of the other top clubs.
He also maintained he had full confidence in his squad, who would get a chance to prove themselves in the pre-season fixtures.
Villas-Boas said while speaking to reporters:
“It is an awkward start. We go to Stoke, who had a successful year last year, and are an aggressive, straightforward and forward-thinking team.
It is a big challenge in the first game, then we have two home games and we are happy to start in this way.”
Villas-Boas’ second in command, Roberto Di Matteo on the other hand revealed he was confident the Blues would get off to a flying start next season.
He admitted the Blues had easier fixtures as compared to English Premier League defending champions Manchester United.
Di Matteo felt a strong start, like Chelsea had under former manager Carlo Ancelotti, could be the key to reclaiming the English Premier League crown.
Di Matteo said:
“Like another couple of teams, Chelsea will have an easy start, well at least until week five when we are away to Manchester United.
United will have two big games early on, Tottenham in week two and then http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in week three, but they will know how to show why they are the champions.”
