Andre Villas-Boas insists Petr Cech and Daniel Sturridge okay after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 win Carling Cup clash
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas revealed the Blues’ first choice goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 international had to be taken to the hospital as
he was taken off at half time after picking up a head injury, but Villas-Boas insisted it was nothing serious and that Cech was okay.
Cech suffered the head injury in a collision with Fulham striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ross-Turnbull-c31796 was brought on as a replacement. The 26-year-old English stopper did well for the Blues, helping his side reach the fourth
round of the Cup competition with a 4-3 win in the penalty shoot-out. The match remained a goal-less draw even after extra time after which the Blues’ saw a win over their London rivals.
With a weekend clash against newly promoted side Swansea City coming up, the Blues will not be looking to lose Cech. However, the Portuguese manager revealed the stopper had undergone a scan which showed that he had not suffered a serious injury. In fact,
he had already recovered from the early concussion and was only taken off as a precaution.
Villas-Boas said while speaking to reporters:
“Petr went for a scan in the hospital and he's okay.
He felt a little bit dizzy from the early concussion at half-time.
We decided, and he decided as well, it was better not to take risks.”
Chelsea players have a history with head injuries, with Cech having sustained a cracked skull in October 2006 against Reading. Since then he has had to wear a protective head-gear, which made his recent injury all the scarier for the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 manager.
The tests however, have confirmed that the injury sustained against Fulham last night was not serious and Cech would be cleared to return to training soon.
More recently, striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 also sustained a serious head injury against Norwich City in an English Premier League fixture before the international break. The 33-year-old Ivory Coast international was sidelined for over three weeks and made his
comeback for the Carling Cup fixture against Fulham. Drogba featured for the Blues on the bench last night and is expected to return for the weekend clash against Swansea City.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Sturridge-c10076, the 22-year-old English striker, started in attack for Chelsea but had to be taken off because he picked up a knee injury. The young forward sustained the injury while scoring a goal shortly before half-time, which was later disallowed.
Villas-Boas insisted the injury was not long-term and at most the striker could be rested in the upcoming game as a precautionary measure.
Villas-Boas continued:
“The ligaments are okay. If he misses one (game), it won't be more than that.”
