Andre Villas-Boas to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vitor-c36281 Pereira appointed Porto boss: Portuguese Primeira Liga news
Andre Villas-Boas has moved to Chelsea after the London giants triggered his buyout clause. Porto have confirmed that former Santa Clara boss, Vitor Pereira, will be his replacement at Estadio do Dragao.
The 2010/11 season was one to forget for Chelsea as they were well below-par and ended the season trophy-less, despite a late surge for the English Title. The woeful campaign culminated in the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti, the same coach who had led
them to the first ‘Double’ in their history the previous season.
Villas-Boas was continually linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the past weeks after the departure of the Italian and it looks like he will be taking charge next season. Although Porto were reluctant to part with their coach, Roman Abramovich
exercised his considerable financial muscle to acquire the services of the former Academica tactician.
Regarded as one of the best managers in the game, Villas-Boas’s considerable experience meant that his contract was worth a whopping €15 million. But the Russian Owner was happy to spend big money on the man who led Porto to glory in four different
competitions including the Portuguese Primeira Liga and the UEFA Europa League.
Managers who forsake their clubs for money and fame are usually criticized for their lack of commitment but Porto Superemo, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pinto-c30032 Da Costa, remained an admirer of his former coach.
“No, we are not angry or upset, because the compensation has been paid.
He is tribute to the victories of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 and with all the staff of the club. Of course the coach was an important part of that and he has a great merit from these victories.” He said.
With the move officially confirmed by the Dragons, the 33-year-old can look forward to his unveiling as Chelsea’s latest ‘Special One’.
After the exit of Villas-Boas, Da http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Costa-c9458 quickly convinced Vitor Pereira to sign with the Portistas. The 42-year-old was without a contract after leaving Santa Clara in 2010. Despite his absence from the game for a year, he remains confident of his
abilities to add more trophies to Porto’s bulging trophy cabinet.
“I want to thank the president and the board for the trust they have in me. I want to say that this club will continue winning," said Pereira.
Pereira started his managerial career with the youth ranks of Padroense. Later he coached Sanjoanense and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 de Espinho, but his two short stints with the Porto youth academy were possibly the deciding factor in his appointment.
While he may not have the same statistics as Boas, he still can provide that extra bit of motivation to the players necessary to achieve three points week-in, week-out.
Reaching the heights set by Jose Mourinho and Andre Villas-Boas is a mammoth task, if not impossible, and whether Pereira can replicate the trophy-laden seasons is anyone’s guess.
