“Andre Villas-Boas will only leave for €15m” – Porto President http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Costa-c9458
Porto President Pinto da Costa has said that only a buyout of Andre Villas-Boas’s €15m contract will see him coach another team.
After a stellar season with the Portistas, Villas-Boas is being linked with the vacant managerial positions at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan.
His future was under intense speculation and the Porto superemo has said that a move to another dugout remains unlikely unless a club triggers the €15m buyout clause in his contract.
"Villas-Boas has a contract and a €15m clause. If someone deposits in our http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bank-c38601 account €15 million and he wants to go, there is nothing we can do, because that is something that is in the contract."
"If that does not happen, he will not leave. We will facilitate negotiations in any way. He will only leave if someone pays the €15 million and he wants to go," said Pinto da Costa.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-c22056 recently parted company with Inter Milan, while Chelsea sacked Carlo Ancelotti after a trophy-less season. With both available jobs, Villas-Boas will be able to play in major European leagues and challenge for honours at the highest level.
But a move to the Italian giants has been ruled out by their hierarchy partly due to the exorbitant amount necessary to lure him to the San Siro. This only leaves the hot seat at Chelsea, which has been a killer spot for managers in recent seasons.
Although Villas-Boas would relish the opportunity to emulate his mentor, Jose Mourinho, and move to London, he must win the UEFA Champions League before moving to Stamford Bridge, if he is to truly cement his place as Mourinho’s successor.
But the Technical Director of Porto, Marco Branca, said that a move for the former Academica boss was highly unlikely and the President has affirmed that with his statement.
Villas-Boas started his coaching after being persuaded by the late Sir Bobby http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/British-Virgin-Islands-c2859 Team before joining Jose Mourinho at Estadio do Dragao as the assistant manager.
He then followed Mourinho to Chelsea and Inter Milan before returning to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 to manage Academica. He guided the Students out of relegation before re-signing with Porto.
In his first season in-charge he hauled a quadruple of the UEFA Europa League, Portuguese Primeira Liga, Portuguese Cup and Portuguese Super Cup – something which had not been done since the time of Jose Mourinho!
A move for Villas-Boas looks unlikely at best, given what he has achieved in his maiden season as Porto manager. But even if a move does not materialize this summer, one can still expect top clubs to chase the latest ‘Special One’ to come out of Porto.
