Andre Ward claims victory over Carl Froch for the Super Six Middleweight Championship fighting with a broken hand
Andre Ward, who recently claimed a victory over Carl Froch to clinch the Super Six middleweight championship, was fighting with a broken hand. A MRI exam revealed that his hand was broken in two places.
Ward himself revealed after winning the fight that he had hurt his hand quite baldy, again in the sixth round, but he managed to hold sway over Froch in the ring with his left hook.
“Early on the adrenaline was working. But in the sixth round, when I hit him on top of the head, that is when I really hit a wall in terms of the pain. But I had no choice. We got through it", Ward commented after the fight.
“The X-ray came back negative. I just knew it hurt like nobody's business," Ward said. "We had to go (through) with the fight. I was extremely concerned the whole week of the fight, but I knew I couldn't pull out.”
Andre Ward overcame his opponent, Carl Froch, to live up to his claim as being the top-notch 168-pound division fighter. The decision of the fight was unanimous, declaring Ward’s victory.
Ward, who now has taken his win tally to 25, with no loss and 13 knock-outs, turned out to be the dominant force in the ring on the match night. He outpaced Froch right from the opening round, giving him no space and time to hit back effectively.
Initially, it seemed that Froch would face a knock-out defeat, until he finally managed to show some authority in the 10th round. But it proved to be too little too late.
According to one judge, the score was 118-110, while two other judges also favoured Ward with 115-113.
Throughout the fight, Ward threw 243 right punches out of total 573, with 42 percent, while Froch was way behind with only 156 punches landed out of 683, at a percentage of mere 23/at a mere percentage of 23.
Ward, a gold medalist at Summer Olympics 2004, surely gave Froch some real tough time in the ring.  He has not lost any of his total 25 fights, while Froch has lost only two out of 30.
According to Ward, Froch looked slower than he was expecting, allowing him to put into practice all his techniques and strategies. Froch rendered like a rattled and miserable boxer as he could not find much time and space to respond to Ward’s decisive blows.
Ward has come a long way after winning the British, Commonwealth and European titles, which is why he was never an easy prey for Froch. His eagerness to face Froch was commendable and indicated the level of confidence he had even before, and during the fight.
The fight was rescheduled to give Ward a time to undergo stitching over his eyes. The entire tournament that stretched over two years had seen various boxer drop out due to injuries.
