Andre Ward confirms shoulder injury – Boxing News
WBA and WBC super middleweight titlist Andre Ward has finally confirmed his shoulder injury. According to the American fighter, he will be going for a shoulder surgery soon. Ward asserted that his injury came in a month back during training.
“When I first got injured, there was a lot of inflammation, and the MRI was misread by the first radiologist,” said Ward. “I’ve been doing extensive rehab and the shoulder was getting stronger, but after three and a half weeks of rehab, there was still slight
pain that had me concerned enough to get two additional opinions.”
According to Ward, it was recently diagnosed that there was a small tear in his shoulder capsule. However, the fighter iterates that it was not a major tear. Ward asserted that he can either go for the surgery to make to recovery process faster or he can
wait and watch to see if it heals itself. The champion opted for the surgical option believing it would make him stronger as he once was.
When asked about the surgeon, Ward revealed that he is working with one of the best orthopaedic surgeons and physical therapists in Northern California. Ward is not worried about his well-being. He has enough confidence in the experts handling, and the American
fighter is hoping to make a strong comeback soon.
When asked about his next fight, Ward asserted that even though he is injured right now, he is planning his next fight in 2013 sometime. He also spoke of the Kelly Pavilk fight, saying he was really interested in doing it but now he has to turn down the
offer due to his injury.
Andre Ward is a 2004 Olympic Gold Medallist. He became Fighter of the Year last year. He knocked out Chad Dawson this year in September to prove his mettle against the best.
For now, Ward believes it is time for him to recover and rest in order to come back as strong as he once was. The American champion is hopeful that he will be able to give fans exciting matches once he is back on the track.
