Andre Ward now into the Final of Super Middleweight Championship – Boxing Update
Professional boxer, Andre Ward has successfully defended his World Boxing Association Super Middleweight title by scoring a unanimous decision against the German national, Arthur Abraham in their 12-round bout fighting at Home Depot Centre in Carson, California
on Saturday, May 14.
The winner of Carl Froch vs. Glen Johnson will face Ward for the WBA & World Boxing Council’s (WBC) Super Middleweight Championship final. The venue and date of final could not be agreed upon yet.
After winning this Super Six semi-final bout Ward has gone through to the final of that mega event amongst the world’s best middle-weights.
The undefeated Ward, who won 24 out of 24 fights in total, scored 13 wins through knock-outs was very impressive throughout the fight. He fought well going against his game plan. However, the German boxer faced the third loss of his career. He has been outstanding
since his first ever professional fight by winning 32 bouts with just three losses and no draws. However, King Arthur should definitely try to analyse his last four fights of which he lost three competitive bouts, something that could concern him at this stage
of his career.
An excited Ward said, “We're going to the final, baby.” Adding to this Ward mentioned that Arthur is no doubt one of the strongest and hardest hitters around the globe and Ward has shown his excellence in the fact that he can win if he follows a plan other
than the original one.
Ward is one step away to claim that he is the best fighter of the 168-pound division. The British national, Carl Froch is the favourite contender of the second Super Six semi-final bout that is going to prove on June 4, when he will face Glen Johnson at
Atlantic City. The WBC Super Middle-weight title will be on stake in that second semi-final.
“I wish the ref had let me fight on the inside, because that's what I had planned for,” Ward said. “But we made adjustments and got the win. ... I'm going to stay humble. I'm going to keep working hard. I want to be a champion for a long time and take the
least amount of punishment possible.”
All the three judges’ scorecards were given in the favour of Ward. Abraham went to the ropes receiving an overhand right in the final minute of the 12th round.
