Andre Ward postpones his Super Six final with Carl Froch after sustaining a cut – Boxing news
The current World Boxing Association World Super Middleweight Super Champion, Andre Ward, has postponed his much-anticipated Super Six World Boxing Classic championship final match with the reigning World Boxing Council Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch
due to a cut sustained during a sparring session.
The American undefeated prospect Andre Ward, who holds a record of winning all of his 24 professional fights, including 13 by the way of a knockout, was initially scheduled against Carl Froch for October 29, 2011 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New
Jersey. However the eagerly awaited clash for the vacant Ring, WBC & WBA Super Middleweight titles will be taking place in December 2011 on a yet-to-be-decided date.
The 27-year-old Ward revealed on Twitter that his cut required seven stitches. Therefore he will have to delay his bout with Froch.
Eddie Hearn, who is the promoter of the Nottingham’s Cobra Carl Froch, is not happy with the way Ward has made everything public. Hearn stated revealing everything on Twitter without informing anyone else was a very unprofessional act from Ward.
Hearn insisted Froch’s camp along with Showtime, who will show live coverage of the bout, want to see the cut as they cannot simply believe Ward’s statement.
Hearn told Sky Sports, “All we can go on is the news given by Andre Ward, and he was very unprofessional to do so in that manner. His promoters will be fuming at the way he delivered that message. We're not happy, we don't believe it and won't believe it
until we see the cut.”
“If we're told the fight is postponed then there's not a lot we can do. I know that Showtime will make sure fans see the evidence. Cuts can happen, it's unusual that cuts that size happen in sparring and it's unusual to be sparring that late at night,” he
added.
Let’s hope Ward recovers from the injury soon and a new date for the bout comes up, as people desperately want to see both men fighting in the ring.
