Andre Ward speaks about his postponed Super Six final with Carl Froch – Boxing news
The current World Boxing Association World Super Middleweight Super Champion, Andre Ward, has shared his feelings with the media about his much-anticipated Super Six World Boxing Classic Tournament Final and world title unification fight with fellow finalist and World Boxing Council World Champion, Carl Froch, which has been postponed due to a cut sustained by Ward.
The undefeated American prospect Ward, who was scheduled to take on Nottingham’s Cobra Carl Froch on October 29, 2011 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, sustained a cut above his right eye during a sparring session on Thursday, September 22. The injury required medical care and seven stitches.
The damage will take time to heal and has the eagerly awaited bout for the vacant Ring, WBC & WBA Super Middleweight title has now been postponed.
Ward told the media that he is very disappointed about the cut. Ward, who has won all of his 24 professional fights, with 13 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, stated he was wearing all the necessary protection yet somehow he still sustained a cut.
Ward remarked, "I'm extremely disappointed about this cut. We used every precaution, including headgear with a face bar and it was just a fluke situation. My sparring partner and I were involved in an exchange inside and the next thing I knew, I was bleeding. That is the most frustrating thing about this—I don't have an explanation for how it happened.”
In the end Ward especially apologised to his fans, opponent and Showtime Sports documentary film crew FIGHT CAMP 360.
“This is very frustrating for my camp and I, and I knew that if the shoe was on the other foot and Froch suffered an injury, I would be extremely disappointed.” Ward continued, “I'd like to express my apologies to SHOWTIME, the fans and the Froch camp, but this is part of boxing.”
Let’s hope Ward recovers soon and a new date for the bout comes up, as people are desperate to see both fighters take each other on.
